Are your children/adolescents feeling the pressures and stress of school (generally speaking)? Well, there is a great documentary from a local director called, Race To Nowhere. This film shines a light on the areas of education that call for change. Children are in school for 7 hours, have extra curricular activities after, come home for dinner and then have hours of homework and studies to complete. If they don’t do their studies and meet the grades, then they may not be able to participate in those extra curricular activities. All of this results into our youth, our next generation loosing their self-confidence, being emotionally and physically ill, taking drugs and cheating. They are not having the Childhood that they need. This film was made in memory to a girl named Devon who sadly passed away.
Since the film was released, while still sparse, school districts have implemented homework guidelines that restrict the amount of homework teachers assign. From observation, there has been less studying from textbooks only to more learning topics by both the text and role playing as well as other hands-on activities.
